Support Workers

- Location: Macclesfield, Congleton, Crewe and Handforth
- Starting Salary: £12.19 ph (annually £23,770.50) – (Bank £11.44 ph)
- Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours), Part-time/Flexible, Days/Nights
- Contract Type: Permanent or Bank
- Up to 210 hrs annual leave

As a Support Worker, you’ll provide emotional and practical support to individuals and their families who struggle to live independently because of mental health and emotional difficulties. All our clients live within shared supported living houses.
Responsibilities
- Assessing the practical and emotional needs of a client and drawing up a care plan
- Providing emotional support by talking to clients and listening to their concerns
- Assisting with domestic tasks such as cooking, cleaning, washing and shopping
- Helping clients to budget and handle money
- Helping clients participate in leisure activities
- Advising clients on practical issues
- Helping clients apply for disability grants and other financial benefits.
- Making case notes and administration duties as required by management.
- Helping clients with life skills.
- Liaising with families.
- Attending meetings and training courses with colleagues.
Skills
- An interest in people and a commitment to helping others
- An ability to communicate clearly and sensitively with vulnerable people and their families
- A knowledge of the emotional and practical difficulties a client may face
- Good listening skills
- The ability to gain the trust of clients and their families and to build good relationships with vulnerable people
- An ability to carry out practical and domestic duties
- Good leadership and problem solving skills
- An organised and flexible approach to the job
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- A willingness to keep up to date with changing standards and codes of conduct within the social care sector
- Time management skills and the ability to meet the needs of several clients at the same time

- An ability to communicate with other healthcare and social work professionals
- Good written communication skills plus basic IT ability
- A respect for client confidentiality
Qualifications & Experience
There are no specific qualifications required for this role but NVQs in Health and Social care would be advantageous. Likewise, 1 year’s experience of working in a support environment is preferred but not essential.

Trustees
We’re also looking for two new directors to join our board and offer support and advice on strategic issues.

- Have an understanding of business operations, experience within a local authority or commissioning of services
- Be able to attend a bi monthly board meeting (around 2 hours long) at the ECHC offices in Macclesfield (lunch provided!)

Senior Manager

- Salary: £27,000 – £30,000 Expenses
- Company car and on-site parking
- Hours: Full time. 8 hour shift Mon-Fri
- Contract type: Permanent
- 33 days annual leave

Due to expansion and internal promotions, an exciting opportunity has arisen to manage our team members who provide support for people with mental health issues and enable them to live in the community or in our bespoke housing schemes.

Senior Operations Manager
Requirements
- Level 5 NVQ Health & Social Care (or willingness to obtain)
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Mental Health support or a similar field
- Excellent communication skills
- People management experience
- Full driving licence
- Strong organisational and administration skills
- IT proficient
Key tasks and responsibilities
Housing Management
- Assisting in the implementation and review of relevant policies, procedures and documentation in relation to supported housing services.
- Overseeing allocated projects and providing support to the teams.
- Notifying the Senior Operations Manager of any likely vacancies or significant changes to service users’ occupancy needs.
- Developing the relevant skills to support and guide other team members as appropriate.
- Assisting in the evaluation of referrals and conducting needs assessments.
- Assisting in the effective implementation and review of service users’ support plans.
- Ensuring all relevant documentation is kept up to date.
- Maintaining tenant confidentiality within the constraints of safety.
- Communicating effectively with all agencies, carers and families involved in the service users’ support packages.
- Assisting in the implementation of the Supporting People Programme in line with quality and monitoring requirements.
- Liaising with partner agencies to ensure a continuous and efficient delivery of service.
- Providing out-of-hours emergency support as appropriate and covering the ‘emergency on-call service’ on a rota basis.
Tenant Support
- Assessing individual need on an ongoing basis to support the implementation and review of service users’ support plans.
- Supporting service users to meet their daily living needs as identified in individual support plans through the key worker system.
- Observing and reporting on service users’ needs to the Senior Operations Manager.
- Acting as key worker in writing support plans, reports etc. as required.
- Maintaining service users’ records and staff confidentiality.
- Supporting service users in managing their financial affairs.
- Attending and participating in service users’ reviews with other agencies when required.
Safety
- Being aware of the Health and Safety at Work Act and ECHC policies regarding health and safety, reporting any problems to senior staff.
- Ensuring service users and visitors are aware of safe practices within the projects.
- Being familiar with fire safety procedures and overseeing the evacuation of service users and staff, reporting any problems to senior staff.
General
- Ensuring good communications between service users and other individuals / agencies involved in the provision of support to tenants.
- Being available for and participating in training courses as required.
- Being familiar with relevant parts of the law relating to Mental Health and any effects it may have on tenants.
- Acting in a professional and courteous manner, ensuring any information concerning service users or staff is treated in the strictest confidence.
- Reporting any apparent defects in fixtures, fittings or structure of buildings to the relevant person.
- Reporting any complaints, accidents or other incidents to the Senior Operations Manager and cooperating with any investigations which may result.
- Carrying out all duties in a professional manner, sometimes with direct supervision, and looking out for opportunities to develop skills.
- Possessing and maintaining a clean and current driving licence.
- Working shifts as agreed within the Senior Operations Manager.
- Working flexible hours in order to meet the needs of the service.
Some flexibility of location may be involved in carrying out this role. The duties in the job description may be amended and updated, in consultation with the post holder, in line with future service developments.
